19 chess fanatics (ages 7-15 ) took part in the annual junior chess camp at the University of Winnipeg last week.
Led by International Master Dave Ross from the U.S.A and 3 local chess instructors ( Lorne Gibbons ,Ken Einarsson, Jim Green ) the junior chess fanatics romped through 4 days of learning and playing chess . New friendships developed and great times were had by all !
Highlights for the week included Bughouse tournaments , Scotch chess tournaments , Suicide chess tournaments , Beating the instructors tournaments , Learning new tactics and strategy sessions , watching the movie The Knights of The South Bronx (Poor inner city school chess club provides context for student to see a way out of desperate lives - great inspirational movie !) with popcorn and donuts (thx Mr Swift ) for all !
Congratulations to everyone who came out and had such a great time ! ( who knew chess could be so LOUD ) . Please look for the Junior Camp Brochure for next years camp coming out this fall.
See you all next year !!
