NOVEMBER JUNIOR TRAINING TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

The next Junior training tournament will be held on Sunday, Janurary 10. The format of the tournaments are a 5 round swiss system with a time control of game in 25 minutes per side and entry fee is $5.00 and a CFC membership. CFC membership can be purchased at the tournament site at a cost of $15.00 for a participating membership and is valid for one year.

The Junior Training Tournaments registration is from 9:30 am to 10:00 am on the day of the tournament with the first round starting at 10:00 am. The tournament is to take place at the University of Winnipeg room 3C14. Use of chess clocks is mandatory in these tournamentsand will be provided as well as help getting used to playing with them after all it is a training tournament !

ARAULLO FAMILY SWEEP MANITOBA JUNIOR CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND

Manitoba's first family of chess : The Araullos of Notre Dame de Lourdes , saw oldest son Paolo win the OPEN Section played on Saturday and Sunday and youngest daughter Katrina win the RESERVE Section on Saturday . Although both sections were fiercely contested , both members of the Arullo family kept their cool and and emerged victorious . Paolo becomes the Manitoba champion and is now eligible to represent the province at the Nationals in 2010. Well done Paolo and Katrina !

2009 Manitoba Junior Reserve Section

The reserve section was held on November 14, 2009 at the University of Winnipeg. A total of seven(7) juniors played in the reserve section and at the end of the tournament Katrina Araullo and Sashin Vijayan tied for the lead, each with 5 out of 6. A best 2 out of 3 playoff was held for the championships and Katrina emerged victorious with 2 wins. Congratulations to Katrina on winning the 2009 reserve section of the Manitoba Juniors.
